The latest vibration sensor from Monitran, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of accelerometers and condition monitoring devices, has been specifically developed to help end users of pumps and pumping systems extend the operating life of equipment through simple on-site checks.
Called the Defender MTN/410 , the latest vibration sensor is small, compact and lightweight; perhaps more importantly, it is completely self-contained enabling it to be fitted in seconds onto all types of pump, using a standard mount, to monitor the exact vibration characteristics of the pump. As a result, end users can easily identify changes in motor bearing or impellor wear over time and therefore predict how and when each pump will require repair or maintenance.
The Defender is manufactured in the UK by Monitran and is based on the company’s proven sensor technology, with an integral microprocessor, plus stainless steel components and casing used throughout. In addition, the Defender has a number of unique features, including a built-in two-digit LCD display, five-year lithium manganese battery and an innovative acceleration switch, which is sensitive to sudden motion and is used to activate the sensor; a sharp tap on the casing being all that is required to start the Defender operating. The unit automatically shuts down after a pre-determined interval to prolong battery life still further.
The fact that Monitran’s latest vibration sensor requires no external power source makes it ideal for use in both remote locations, for example, pumping stations and water treatment works, and applications where a number of pumps or booster sets need to be regularly monitored, but where the cost of a fully integrated condition monitoring system would otherwise be prohibitive.
The Defender is extremely accurate, with a displayed velocity range of 0 to 99mm/sec rms and a measurement bandwidth of 6Hz to 1kHz; each unit is sealed to IP65 and can operate at temperatures ranging from -20˚C to +85˚C.
Mounting is quick and simple, via a variable position mounting unit, specially designed to be installed on any plane, making it easy to attach the sensor to the equipment being monitored while providing a clear view of the LCD.
